My emails to people are getting blocked. Why?

On our shared hosting plans (basic thru pro) your emails are hosted on a shared server using shared datacenter resources. Sometimes these shared email servers get blocked by other email services and ISP's like Hotmail, Comcast, AOL, and Yahoo due to a spam outbreak on the server or datacenter.

While we are very careful about not letting spammers sign up on our plans (because we don't do automatic activation), occasionally they do sign up and the result can be a blockage for everyone on the server. We have an abuse administrator that contacts the other ISPs and resolves the blockage. It can take up to a week for the blockage to be resolved due to communication with the large corporations that are involved. Our abuse administrator is in constant communication with other ISPs and is working to resolve these issues.

There is a  temporary workaround if you have a Gmail or a Yahoo account. You can still appear to be sending email from you@yourdomain.com . Each of the previously mentioned webmail systems has a way to add another account - usually under settings. This is a really great thing to have already set up as a backup at any time. Another service to use if you don't want to use Google or Yahoo is AuthSMTP.com

Gmail - step by step instructions
Yahoo - under options, accounts
AuthSMTP.com - see their site

If you are concerned about the blockages, it is worth paying a few extra dollars a month for a service for email that is separate than web hosting. Please see our other article here.
