Mac Mail.app will not send

No matter what you seem to do, Mail.app has problems sending. Delete the preferences file and it should work.

It turns out you may have to do this:

  1. Quit mail.
  2. Backup the  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file by using this command from terminal (In the Utilities folder in Applications): cp ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist ~/Library/Preference/com.apple.mail.plist.bak (or, just find that folder in the Finder, it should be in your user directory. Then rename the file)
  3. re-start mail, the message should send!
