Why Do I Get a Certificate Warning When Accessing CPanel?

Examine the certificate details, and you should see that it is valid. You are most likely getting the warning because you're connecting via a direct IP address or your own site, which does not have its own certificate.

It looks like a scary warning, but due to the way that cpanel is set up on a shared server, this is actually normal behavior.

The technical details are that your site does not have it's own secure certificate for CPanel - even if your site does have it's own secure certificate for web pages such as a shopping cart.

Secure certificates are only valid for one web address (URL) at a time. The setup of CPanel requires that the certificate be set up for the hostname of the server.

So, when you check the details of the certificate, it should say *.nswebhost.com or server.sustainablewebsites.com. If it says one of these options it is O.K. to accept the certificate and continue.

You can avoid this issue by connecting to the actual hostname of your server, for example https://server.sustainablewebsites.com:2083 . If you do not know the actual hostname of your server, please ask technical support for details.

This is a common occurrence as I am sure you haven't seen this only when accessing your cPanel account with sustainablewebsites.com. Your browser is trying to keep you as safe as possible. Very rarely (unless it's a site big like Google) will you find a secure site that doesn't give you that message. Generally they are 100% secure. If it is a site where you plan to spend a lot of money you do want to look into it and make sure that the certificate is legit. Contact the support of the said website and bring the issue to there attention as you have with sustainablewebsites.com
